PharmaMar surges on lung cancer drug's positive results in late-stage trial
** Shares of PharmaMar surge 25%, on track for their best day since March 2020, after the company announced positive results in a late-stage clinical trial of its drug combination to treat small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
** The clinical trial of lurbinectedin drug in combination with the PD-L1 inhibitor atezolizumab showed a "statistically significant improvement and clinically meaningful in primary endpoints of overall survival and progression-free survival" compared to treatment with atezolizumab alone, the company said
** The trial is being conducted with its partner Jazz Pharmaceuticals JAZZ.O
** RX Securities believes these positive results will lead to a 1L approval in Europe in 2026
** The brokerage adds Zepzelca (lurbinectedin) monotherapy is currently the standard of care in 2L SCLC, and in Europe it is only approved in Switzerland
** RX Securities expects Zepzelca sales of $313 million this year
** PharmaMar shares soared in Jan 2022 after drug study suggested efficacy against Omicron
