ECONOMY

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will hold a cabinet meeting on the budget plan (1800 GMT)

Bank of Italy releases August data on public finances, state borrowing and debt.


COMPANIES

INTESA SANPAOLO ISP.MI

The Italian biggest bank is under investigation by prosecutors in Italy after a former employee illegally spied on account data of thousands of its customers, newswire ANSA reported on Monday.

Intesa said in a statement it had received no formal notice of having being put under investigation and was able to alert authorities only once "an extended and accurate analysis provided (the bank) with a clear picture of the events".


(*) BANKING SECTOR

The banking sector's contribution to the government's budget, expected to be approved later on Tuesday, will be worth between 3-4 billion euros over two years, newspapers reported. The majority of the funds will come from deferred tax assets, they added.


LEONARDO LDOF.MI

The defence group will finalise a joint venture with Germany's Rheinmetall RHMG.DE on Tuesday, its Chief Executive Roberto Cingolani said on Monday.

A joint press conference with Cingolani and Rheinmetall's CEO Armin Papperger will be held in Rome (1000 GMT).

(*) Thales Alenia Space, the joint venture between France's Thales TCFP.PA and Leonardo, signed on Monday an amendment to its contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop the ESPRIT communications and refueling module for the future Lunar Gateway orbital outpost, worth €164 million, the group said in a statement.


STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The EU's duties on Chinese-made electric cars will speed up plant closures in Europe by local automakers, as tariffs will push Chinese manufacturers to build facilities in Europe, adding to overcapacity problems, Stellantis' CEO said on Monday.

During the Paris Car Show, Carlos Tavares also said he would be part of the decision process to choose his successor and that the group had not started a strategic review of its brands but was looking at their profitability every month.

He will probably give an update to investors before Christmas 2024, he added.

(*) Stellantis is not seeking to merge with or to buy other players, John Elkann, chairman of the French-Italian automaker, told news agency AFP on Monday, amid recent rumours of a tie-up with French competitor Renault RENA.PA.

The Treasury have sounded out a number of banking foundations, including Cariplo and Cariverona, for possible interest in the stake of the postal operator the government is planning to sell on the market.

The Italian energy group said on Monday that U.S. gas exporter Venture Global LNG told it not to expect contract cargoes from its Louisiana export facility until April 2025.

Italy's Vega-C rocket will return to space on Dec. 3, almost two years after it failed a mission in 2022, the CEO of its manufacturer Avio said on Monday.
