EUROPEAN SHARES MOSTLY HIGHER, UK GAMBLING NAMES TUMBLE
Major European bourses are edging higher on Monday as investors looked ahead to key events this week, including the ECB decision on Thursday and earnings from LVMH and ASML.
The pan-European STOXX 600 .STOXX is up about 0.2% after notching a 0.7% gain last week.
Germany's DAX is up 0.4%, France's CAC 40 .FCHI is flat and Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE is up 0.1%.
The aerospace and defense sector .SXPARO leads gainers as Rheinmetall RHMG.DE and Leonardo LDOF.MI top the European benchmark index.
Travel and leisure .SXTP is Europe's laggard, weighed by a drop in British-listed gambling names after a media report said they could be targeted for tax rises in the upcoming budget.
Shares in Entain ENT.L, Evoke EVOK.L and Flutter Entertainment FLTRF.L are down between 7%-13%.
Luxury names are also weak as investors shrugged at the lack of details about Chinese stimulus following a weekend press conference. Shares in Kering PRTP.PA, LVMH LVMH.PA, Christian Dior DIOR.PA and Burberry BRBY.L are down 1.7%-3%.
